You’re engaged, congratulations!!!  So now what?  That’s a good question and one that as a wedding coordinator I hear all the time.  The journey you’re about to embark on will be full of ups and downs but has the opportunity to be one of the most rewarding of your life.  Take the journey step by step and day by day and you will be able to have your dream wedding, which will live on in your memory for years to come.

Getting started on planning your wedding can be a daunting task.  What do I do when?  How do I know what to choose?  Who do I ask for help?  How am I going to pay for this?  These are probably only a few of the questions that are going through your mind right now.  Don’t worry, whether you would like to do everything on your own or hire the help of a wedding planning professional, your day will be unique and special.

Ok, so you’re probably still asking, so where do I start?  Well, at the beginning of course.  Every journey has a beginning.  As a little girl you probably had or still have an idea in your head of what you would like your wedding to be.  Begin with this.  Is this idea still what you would like or not?  If it is, then you’re on your way.  If not, adapt it to what you would like now and then begin.  Talk with your fiancé and see if he has any ideas.  You might be surprised by what you find out.  He may have an idea of what he would like as well.  Combing both ideas isn’t always easy, but it is possible.  You will need to work together.

Choosing a date is one of the most important things to do.  You will have to find a ceremony and a reception venue, if they are not the same that are both available on the same day.  This can be a challenge as the majority of reception venue’s book at least one year in advance.  Developing a wedding budget is also important to do at the beginning of the wedding planning process.  Doing this right away will help you know the price range that you are working within and will keep you on track so that you don’t go into debt paying for your special day.

Always remember, your wedding day is supposed to be a happy day.  By planning things right, you can have a fun and stress free day that you and your guests will remember.  If you find you are getting stressed in the planning process, take a couple steps back and relax.  Go to the spa for a day, or do something else that you love that is not wedding related at all.  Then go back to the planning and things will work themselves out.
